Get ready for Detroit-San Antonio II! Okay, so maybe I’m jumping the gun a bit, but really, is there anyone expecting anything less that a rematch of the 2005 NBA Finals?
I’m thrilled that the Pistons finished off the Bulls on Thursday. I admit that I was feeling very uneasy up through the start of the fourth quarter. Enough with the “Baby Bulls” talk already. This team is going to make some noise next year, especially if John Paxson can work some magic and bring in a low-post scoring presence.
As far as San Antonio, it was no shock (at least to me) that they handled Phoenix. Of course, now the media is whining about how if Amare Stoudemire and Boris Diaw weren’t “wrongly” suspended for Game 5, we’d be looking at an exciting Game 7. Oh, please.
Strangely missing in this assessment is the fact that the Spurs handled Phoenix even without Robert Horry, the same guy who was responsible for the Pistons’ defeat in 2005. Phoenix was the favorite of the media this year because of their high-scoring, defenseless games. Too bad for them that the BETTER team actually won.
