‘Rasslin’ woes

Everyone needs at least one guilty pleasure. Those who know me probably know about my strange lifelong penchant for watching professional wrestling. Granted, I no longer follow it nearly as religiously as I used to, but I still love seeing a great match every now and then. Maybe it’s just because of the great memories I have of going to wrestling events with my Dad.

Anyway, one of my favorite wrestlers was the late WWE performer Chris Benoit. If Benoit was wrestling, you knew it was going to be a good (and usually great) match. Unfortunately, his name is going to be all over the news the next few days for reasons other than his in-ring talents.

Granted, I have no idea what led to these events taking place, but it makes me think about the struggles every professional athlete must deal with. I can’t imagine the pressures that being a professional athlete must bring. Besides the toll it would take on your body, think about the toll it would take on your family (long trips, little communication, temptationsKobe, I’m looking at you!). From mainstream athletes like Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan, to the lesser-known guys like Chris Benoit, it would seem that family life and professional sports just don’t mix.
