We had a fantastic time last night, going out with some of our TC friends. It’s nice to be able to kick back and hang out with friends after a long week. We tried out a great restaurant called The Score. It’s a sports bar, but the food is fantastic! We recommend the Make-your-own calzone. After the great dinner, we went to our favorite pub in Rockford and enjoyed an evening of karaoke. Believe it or not, Rob even got up there (of course it was because people wrote his name down without him knowing). I was able to take some video of the night’s events. It’ll surely become blackmail material for our retirement parties (in like a zillion years).

We decided to go to a political rally in Grand Rapids this evening for Barack Obama. It was his first visit to Michigan. It was quite an experience. Not only did Obama speak, but John Edwards endorsed him (it was a surprise visit for Edwards). It was like we got 2 for the price of 1 (even though the event was free)!

We waited for nearly 2 hours inside the arena, but everyone was so polite and friendly. Because we didn’t go down for the Gerald Ford events, we decided that we should probably go down to the rally, seeing as there is a chance that Obama could be our President some day, and not just anybody can say they saw the President speak. I’m not completely convinced that he will make a good President (I am a Hillary fan, personally), and just today I was talking with some colleagues about who I am going to “write-in” for my vote for President this November. But, the man is definitely very well spoken, and I can see why he is so appealing to many people. He comes across as very intelligent, energetic, personable, and he was even concerned about some crowd member who passed out almost directly in front of him.

It really was a neat event! I’m glad that I went.

Great news! The snow melted enough this weekend to allow Rob to fire up our lawn mower and drive it into our shed. (I’ll post the pictures soon.) What’s nice is that we have full use of our garage again. We can easily walk through it now, and we can even put our school stuff in the back seat of the car. We were having to put it in the trunk because the back doors wouldn’t open.

In other news, our friends Melanie and Kyle were blessed this past weekend with the birth of their first child, a little girl! We are very happy for them. She was born on 3-15 at 3:15. I think that’s way cool! We have been pretty busy, with giving exams and starting a new trimester all in the same week. However, we know that rest and relaxation are soon to come, once we step off the plane in the Sunshine State.

We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our wedding pictures. It’s a daily ritual as we ride home from work to say, “Do you think the pictures are here today?” We’ll let you know when they get here.

We’re also looking forward to being able to put our new lawn mower in the shed. There are still around six inches of snow standing in our yard. It must be all of the trees that prevent the melting. But each day we see the sun, we are reminded that soon enough we’ll be able to be outside, working in our yard. We can’t wait!

Thanks to Sarah’s mom and dad, we’ll be lodging at Disney’s Saratoga Springs for Spring Break. Considering what a long winter it has been, we can’t wait to get away to some Florida warmth.

And WrestleMania! Okay, so maybe Sarah isn’t nearly as excited as I am. Truth be told, I’m not as big of a wrestling fan as I used to be, but how often does someone get a chance to go to the biggest ‘rasslin’ event of the year? This will be my third WrestleMania (I went to III in Detroit and VIII in Indianapolis), so I guess I’ll be reliving some childhood memories.

And if we’re really lucky, we’ll be sitting around some 300-pound drunken sweaty dudes in sleeveless shirts!

By the way, make sure to check out our new “Pointless Pictures” photo album. The new Flash-based album really rocks. Well, at least I think so. I guess you can let me know what you think by leaving a comment here or in the photo album itself. We’ll be busy adding photos to the web site over the next few weeks.

It would seem like I should have written a lot sooner, seeing as we’ve had 13 snow days this year - and there’s still more winter left. However, I spent most of those 13 days sleeping in and watching bad daytime television. I’m paying for it now as I have to actually get up between 5:30 and 6:00 and be teaching by 7:30 AM. It’s been a rough week of mornings for me. Here’s an update on what’s been going on this winter:

My sister is getting married in July! Wedding fever is still around! It will be very exciting and wonderful. I am having fun planning her bachelorette party! Hee hee!

I can’t even begin to tell you how many of my girl friends are pregnant! It is so exciting! I have a cousin, two college friends, two high school friends, and two Cedar Springs area friends who are all expecting this spring and summer! Good news abounds!

We did buy a lawn mower a few weeks ago - I’ll let Rob do more bragging about that one. But, it is a good looking tractor! Nothing beats that John Deere green!

In travel news, we’re making preparations to spend our spring break in Florida! The more we look at the snow - ALL that snow - the more anxious we are to head south. It’ll be a fun trip! In other travel news, I’m heading to Mexico in June with a group of my students.

For those of you who have been to our house, I have GREAT news! The yellow is GONE from the downstairs bathroom, the upstairs bedroom, and most importantly, from the upstairs “bling-bling” bathroom. Also, we took the “burnt orange” color out of the downstairs bathroom, and painted a lighter shade of brown to complement the dark brown that is already in the room.

If you have not yet visited, I can assure you that you won’t be sorry that you missed all the yellow. I like yellow, don’t get me wrong. But there was way too much yellow, in way too many shades. The main living area is still yellow, but I actually think that’s growing on me.

So how did so many rooms get painted so quickly, you ask? Well, let’s just say that we have to give many thanks to my WONDERFUL cousins who came up on Friday night to help. They were great workers, and real troopers! We worked most of the day on Saturday, and then we had pizza and “Wii’d” until very early in the morning. My cousins are very fun, and as I high school teacher who works with teenagers every day, it was very interesting to have 4 teenage girls in our house for the weekend. We learned all about how kids “text message” in school. I’m glad that they shared their secrets!

We haven’t quite gotten the rooms back together (that is on this week’s agenda). But, when we do, we’ll post some pictures of the improvements. It’s amazing how different a room can look by simply changing the color of the walls!

What else needs to be said?

First of all, thanks to everyone for your prayers and thoughts through what has been the craziest few weeks of our lives. That being said, Sarah and I are doing wonderfully and are so happy to be starting our lives together!

I can’t believe that it’s already been two weeks since our wedding. Time has been flying…for obvious reasons.

I know it sounds a little cliché, but our wedding day was the happiest day of my life. Yeah, I admit that I teared up as Sarah (wasn’t she GORGEOUS?) walked down the aisle. The day couldn’t have gone more smoothly. We had such a fun time partying and being with friends. It was a wonderful release after one of the hardest weeks our lives. I can’t thank everyone enough for helping us pull the rest of our wedding plans together during that final week after my Dad’s passing.

My Mom is doing better in many ways than she has been in years. We’re going to take one step at a time, but I’m hoping she’ll finally get the help she needs. There are definitely some positive things that will come from my Dad’s passing. I think he was looking down on us with a big smile at the conclusion of our wedding, as the sun came out as we made our way to the limo.

So again, we’re still here, and we’re doing great (Sarah’s playing the Wii as I write)! Please stay in touch, and we’ll make it a priority to get some photos up on the web site! After all, we have to share some of that sun from Mexico!
